ITALIAN CANDIDATURE FOR THE 2012 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS IF THE GOVERNMENT GIVES ITS CONSENT
Rome December 20, 2004
Candidature for the 2012 European Championships, recalling of professional clubs, league admission terms and procedures, antidoping regulations: these are some of the issues discussed today in the meeting held by the Federal Board.
AS per the proposal made by the President, the Federal Board decided to resolve Italy's candidature for the 2012 European Championships, subordinating the presentation to the con set that must be given by the Government, fundamental for the official commitments that must be taken with UEFA. The initiative was accompanied by a document containing all the steps required by Uefa, that will make the final decision in December 2006. The documentation also contains a study carried out by the Portuguese Universities on the positive economic impact that the last edition of the European Championships had on the gross national product of the Portugal.
Following the resolution, president Carraro explained: "I already wrote a letter to the Council president and I will send him the dossier that I gave the federal Board today. The candidature must be presented before January 31, 2005, and in July 2005 we will have to present a dossier with the guarantees made by the Government, without which the project cannot go ahead".
