Roma starlet Daniele De Rossi says he is ready to extend his contract with
the capital outfit.
"The renewal is close and I hope it occurs as soon as possible," said the
midfield star of the future.
"I am currently tied to the club until 2006 and I want to respect that even
if there are other clubs interested in me.
"I’ve never hidden my love for the Giallorossi and I hope to remain in
Rome for as long as possible."
However, the 21-year-old did suggest that he was looking for an improved
salary to stay on.
"I can’t stay here for free," he continued. "It shouldn’t be forgotten
that football is my work and I work, like everybody else, to earn."
Turning to on the field matters, De Rossi was one of six Olympic players to
be named in the latest Azzurri squad.
"We’ve found a very tranquil environment here," he continued. "All of our
new teammates have welcomed us with enthusiasm."
De Rossi was finally asked for his thoughts on the appointment of Rudi
Voller as the new Roma boss.
"I remember him as a player when I was very young," he explained. "I hope
he does as well on the bench as he did on the pitch. He can make us into a
great side."
