It seems that a chapter of Kader Keita’s career is drawing to a close as he is expected to leave Olympique Lyonnais this summer, with Roma, Everton and West Ham United leading the chase to sign him, according to a report in L’Equipe.
Speaking to France Football yesterday, the player’s agent, Alfred Obrou, who is also his uncle, indicated that his client is actively seeking to leave the Stade Gerland. “He wants to leave Lyon for a new base,” he said.
Keita made a big move – reportedly as much as 18 million - from Ligue 1 rivals Lille to the Rhone Valley two summers ago, but much of the fanfare regarding his switch has died, leaving the Ivorian international star frustrated on the sidelines.
“I know that I am rebuked for my poor performances,” stated the 27-year-old winger, who is best known for his showings on the right. “But if they want to see me score, I just need to play. It’s no more complicated than that. The problem is that they are slow to trust me.”
Feeling that the whole of Lyon is against him, Keita seeks his vengeance elsewhere. “I will not be put off so easily,” he asserted. “I do not want to bring pleasure to those at the club, waiting to see me fail.”
A scorer of just five Ligue 1 goals in over 50 appearances for Lyon, the transfer flop would be well served seeking his fortune elsewhere. Undoubtedly he is a player of real potential, but unlocking it will be difficult as his confidence on the park appears to be near rock bottom.
