Sampdoria transfer chief Giuseppe Marotta insists that Roma are keen on signing Gennaro Del Vecchio. The midfielder has been a revelation since his summer switch from Lecce and did enough in pre-season to win a maiden call-up to the Italian international squad. And now Marotta insists that Italy boss Roberto Donadoni is not the only man who has been impressed by the 28-year-old. “Scouts from big clubs come and watch him play every weekend, including those from Roma,” he added.
“We have an excellent relationship with the Giallorosso club and it would be pleasing for us if Gennaro went on to wear such a prestigious jersey.” Marotta also revealed the reasons why they allowed Max Tonetto to join the capital club before the start of this season. “He says that we didn’t believe in him, but that is not exactly the truth,” continued Marotta. “We simply let him go for economical reasons. “Our club politics make it impossible for a player of a certain age to have their yearly salary doubled.”
