AS Roma have been searching for a classy youngster to reinforce their midfield next season, and Mathias Cardaccio could well be their man.
The Uruguayan international was in sensational form for Nacional last season, and played a key role for the club in the Copa Libertadores earlier in the year.
Cardaccio, 20, is currently in the Italian capital with his agent, and former Roma striker Daniel Fonseca. Apparently Fonseca recommended the player to the club, and a deal could be announced by the end of the week.
In recent months SS Lazio have been tracking the midfielder as well, but it seems that he will finally join their eternal rivals. Roma are expected to offer the player a five-year contract.
Other clubs who have shown an interest in the player include Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Udinese.
