Mido sent home in disgrace Wednesday 8 February, 2006

Roma’s Egyptian striker Mido has been sent home in disgrace from the African Cup of Nations and banned from international football for six months.
The 22-year-old, who is currently on loan at Tottenham, was involved in a heated row with Egypt Coach Hassan Shehata after being substituted during yesterday’s semi-final win over Senegal.
An irate Mido, who had returned to the starting line-up in spite of an ongoing groin problem, was forcibly removed from pitchside by coaching staff while Amr Zaki, who replaced him, scored the winning goal with his first touch of the ball.
The Egyptian FA convened last night to discuss Mido’s actions and reached their verdict on the basis of the player’s poor behaviour and their desire for no distractions ahead of the Final on Friday against the Ivory Coast.
“The Egypt team does not just mean Mido,” said assistant Coach Shawki Gharib. “He is just one player in a squad of 23.
"Now we have to concentrate on the Final and forget our problems. The important thing is what we are going to do in the match.
“The team's preparations are far more important than any dispute between Shehata and Mido.”
Tottenham Coach Martin Jol is likely to take a dim view of these latest developments, especially after having specifically warned Mido before he left for Africa to neither get injured or get into trouble.
To make matters worse for the striker, in his absence, Jermaine Defoe has returned to the Spurs line-up and the scoresheet.
All of the above developments could well result in the temperamental forward being returned to Roma at the end of the season.
