Plenty of cup precedents
Fiorentina and Roma have faced each other six times in total at the quarter-final stage of the Coppa Italia - with Roma going through on four occasions. Fiorentina, however, progressed in the most recent meeting - during the 2014/15 season.
The recent record
Roma have lost just two of their last 11 games against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia (with three draws).
Fiorentina and the quarter-finals
La Viola have been knocked out at the quarter-final stage on five of their last eight appearances at that point in the competition - two of those coming against Roma. In each of the previous two seasons they went out in the last-eight, losing 1-0 away to Napoli and then Lazio.
Roma's quarter-final record
Roma have moved onto the semi-finals on three of the last four occasions when they have reached the quarter-finals. The only exception? In 2014-15, when they went out at the hands of... Fiorentina.
Our last quarter-final appearance...
Roma's last quarter-final tie in the Coppa Italia came at the start of February 2017 - a 2-1 win over Cesena. On that occasion the game was decided by a Francesco Totti penalty - in what would prove to be the last goal of his career. Edin Dzeko scored the game's other goal.
The last away quarter-final...
The last time Roma had to travel away for a Coppa Italia quarter-final tie? Six years ago, January 2013, against... Fiorentina. Zdenek Zeman's Roma side eventually prevailed in extra-time - thanks to Mattia Destro's goal.
Shots fired
Roma took more shots on target than any other side during the last-16 of the competition - 13. The Giallorossi have not managed more than that in any other game so far this season. In their last-16 tie, however, Fiorentina did not even concede one shot on target - for the first time this season.
Schick on form
Patrik Schick was the individual player with more shots on target than any other player in the last round (five). Two of those turned into goals against Virtus Entella.
The coaches face off again
Eusebio Di Francesco and Stefano Pioli have met as managers on nine previous occasions - with a split record, four wins apiece and one draw. Di Francesco's last victory came back in November 2017, as Roma ran out 4-2 winners at the Franchi.
Pioli vs Roma
Pioli, meanwhile, has faced Roma 19 times during his career - winning just twice, and picking up a further six draws. Fiorentina ran out 2-0 winners at the Olimpico back in April last year - while more recently the sides drew 1-1 at the Franchi in the league earlier in the campaign.
In total, Pioli has faced Roma as coach of Parma, Chievo, Bologna, Lazio, Inter and Fiorentina. |
