<DIV class=t_msgfont id=postmessage_709791>Italian giants Roma target Michael Owen<BR><BR>ROMA are eyeing a shock summer move for Newcastle skipper Michael Owen.<BR><BR>The Italian giants are desperate to revive past glories, but do not have the financial muscle to battle for Europe’s elite players.<BR><BR>Owen’s still impressive goalscoring record, allied with his availability on a free transfer from the end of this month, has lifted him towards the top of their list of targets.<BR><BR>Everton have a long-term interest in Owen, and the striker would be willing to take a massive cut in his current 100,000-plus weekly salary to join the club he supported as a kid.<BR><BR>It also remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s worsening financial situation compels them to make a freebie move for their celebrated old boy.<BR><BR>Milan duo AC and Inter, along with Genoa, have been credited with an interest in a player whose reputation across Europe has survived Newcastle’s relegation – but Roma look the most likely foreign destination for a player who has not given up on winning a recall to the England squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.<BR><BR>Meanwhile, Newcastle full-back Jose Enrique has admitted he has the appetite for a move to Atletico Madrid – after slagging off English food.<BR><BR>Enrique is another player who would net the cash-strapped Magpies a significant fee this summer, albeit well short of the £6m spent on him by Sam Allardyce in August 2007.<BR><BR>He said: “Who would not want to play at a club like Atletico?.<BR><BR>“I still have left three years of my contract with Newcastle, but I am thankful and flattered to be linked with Atletico.<BR><BR>“If I am honest, I do not have any preference which country I play in next season.
