Roma’s Scudetto ambitions have taken a blow with the news that Alberto Aquilani may be sidelined for the next three months.
The midfielder, who made his Italy debut against Turkey 10 days ago, picked up a serious knee injury in training on Saturday.
Aquilani accidentally clashed with teammate Rodrigo Taddei in a practice game and initial tests have illustrated ligament damage.
Reports suggest that the Under-21 international regular will be out for the next 45 days and will only regain full fitness in around 10 weeks.
Aquilani is set to undergo more examinations in the next 24 hours that will provide a more accurate diagnosis.
It’s unclear at this stage whether the classy playmaker has damaged his meniscus. But no surgery is on the horizon.
Aquilani was set to start in Sunday’s match against Sampdoria.
