Midfielder Fabio Simplicio has agreed to join Palermo from Parma.

Palermo have yet to officially announce the transfer but it is understood that he has penned a lucrative four-year deal.

The Brazilian admitted that he would be sad to leave Parma, but said that he had decided to move to Sicily for the good of his career.

"My aim is to achieve a place in the Brazilian national team and for this reason I have chosen a big Italian side," he said.

"I leave Parma after two good years but I'm sure it will be just as stimulating in Sicily."

Simplicio is confident that he can inspire Palermo to build on an encouraging season last time round.

"I hope to be able to repeat the 10 goals I scored last season," he declared.

"In Palermo they dream to win the league in three years and this is a further reason to give it my best.

"I have signed a four-year deal and I hope to stay until the end."

The Buenos Aires native had been strongly linked with the Biancocelesti for some time and completed his move despite the club’s involvement in the Calciopoli trial. Ledesma, born in 1982, had scored three goals in 93 Serie A games for Lecce following his debut in March 2002. The Bianconeri, who have lost Ferdinando Coppola to Milan, have netted the 40-year-old from Serie B giants Bologna on a free transfer. The 1994 and 1998 World Cup ‘keeper made his Serie A debut for Sampdoria against Pisa back in May 1988. He eventually left Doria for Inter and then rejoined Bologna, his hometown club, where his career started in 1984. Pagliuca will now be given an opportunity to become Serie A’s leading player when it comes to appearances. Pagliuca has featured in 569 games so far, one behind the legendary Dino Zoff, and only has Milan legend Paolo Maldini ahead of him with 582.
