Emanuel Pogatetz is being pursued by AS Roma, and could be set for a summer switch from the Riverside to Serie A, despite his earlier assertions that he was quite happy to remain on Teesside and help Boro bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
The player's agent, according to Setanta Sports, has confirmed that discussions have taken place with Roma, but nothing has been finalised just yet.
"We had talks with a Roma delegation last week in Carinthia,” his agent reportedly told Krone.
Pogatetz, a versatile defender who can play all across the back line, did miss the last three games of Boro's doomed campaign with a knee injury, and Roma will wait for a full recovery before concluding a deal, as the player is still undergoing rehabilitation following surgery.
"Roma want to wait for him to recover. It is understandable that they don’t want to buy an injured player," the agent explained.
No details are yet available as to the price-tag that Boro will attach to the player.
