AS Roma are said to consider Mertesacker as a perfect substitute for Christian Chivu…

Roma have basically given up on Christian Chivu, and are currently discussing transfer terms with Inter, as the Nerazzurri seem keen to strengthen their rearguard with the Romanian international.

Preparing for Chivu's departure, Roma have supposedly singled out Werder Bremen's Per Mertesacker as the replacement, according to reports in Germany.

Officially, Roma’s management have refuted any links with the German international, and declared that they will try their best not to let Chivu leave.
