Spalletti: I can't forgive Udinese
Ex-Udinese boss Luciano Spalletti comes face to face with the club he left under bitter circumstances and warns that there’s more to Roma than Antonio Cassano.
“Giampaolo Pozzo aimed several insults at me that it will be very difficult to forget or forgive,” said the former Friuli Coach.
The club had refused to release him from his contract in order to join Roma and the saga carried on for several weeks before Spalletti finally made the break.
“It was easy for Pozzo to say certain things to the fans and picture me as a demon, but I have always treated him with respect, perhaps more than he showed me.”
Nonetheless, this will be a happy reunion with some of his former colleag
ues when they pay a visit to the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow afternoon.
“I’ll be pleased to see my ex-players and owe them a great deal, in particular Nestor Sensini, Valerio Bertotto and Morgan De Sanctis. They proved decisive in helping Udinese get this far.”
Spalletti took them to fourth place last season, a position usually held by Roma, and will now attempt to take it back to the capital. “It will be a very difficult game against a team that always knows what it wants,” added the tactician. “Serse Cosmi is a great professional and I know he’s a lifelong Roma fan who perhaps wanted my job. I guess it just means I was luckier than him this summer.”
