Italy look forward to 'cup final' against Paraguay
Italian coach Claudio Gentile was already looking forward after his side's narrow victory: "We know that Japan had recently won the Asia Cup and would be tough opponents. Now we have a cup final against Paraguay."
Gilardino, whose two goals proved a major contribution to the victory added: "It was a good game. I'm very happy. We controlled the game after going ahead 3-1. Now we are looking ahead to the game against Paraguay."
FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter said of the encounter: "The game was played at a very high tempo in the first half. Japan were a little too impetuous going forward. Italy's players are all professionals and controlled the game in the second half. It was a fantastic, entertaining game for the fans tonight."
