</p><p><br></p><p>With a name like that he seemed destined to play for Roma sooner or
later. Kostas - full name Kostantinos - Manolas arrives hoping to rule
Rome, just like Emperor Constantine the Great did before him. He's not
the first Greek to pull on a Giallorossi jersey (he follows in the
footsteps of Choutos, Dellas, Tachtsidis and Torosidis; Eleftheropoulos
never played for the first team), but like his namesake he is the first
Roman Kostantinos.</p>
<p>
A 23-year-old center-back with a sturdy build who displays great
agility in one on ones, he is rated by many as one of the best defenders
in Europe at the moment. He was Greece's outstanding performer at
Brazil 2014: Fernando Santos' side was built on its defensive solidity
and Manolas – together with another Giallorossi defender Torosidis – was
at the heart of it.</p>
<p>
He joins from Olympiacos, a team where he gained a wealth of
international experience in the <b>Champions League: 13 games over two
years, including two goals in 2013/14</b>.</p>
<p>
His <b>winner's medals include two Greek league titles with Olympiacos and
two Greek Cups (one with Olympiacos and the other with his former club
AEK Athens).</b></p>
<p>
Another sign the Greek center-half would end up a Giallorossi player is
that AS Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has been keeping tabs on
him for three years.</p>
He also comes with a glowing appraisal from AS Roma Famer Roberto
Pruzzo. The star striker of our second Scudetto recently predicted:
