Totti: Roma will rise again

Francesco Totti and Luciano Spalletti are confident that Roma can emerge from their crisis following the 3-2 home defeat to Siena.

“That was an unlucky and ugly game,” said captain Totti. “We didn’t play at all well, but I think that a few refereeing errors have damaged us so far this season. I don’t want to act like a victim, but without those mistakes our position in the standings would be different.”

The Giallorossi lost at the Stadio Olimpico despite the fact that Siena were playing in 10 men for the final half-hour and it was their second home defeat of the campaign.

This result left Roma languishing in 12th place – 10 points adrift of leaders Juventus – and Totti believes that Spalletti is the key to their revival.

Roma have been drawn in UEFA Cup Group E along with Tromso, Red Star Belgrade, Basel and Strasbourg.

“On paper this Group is certainly within our grasp,” said Spalletti. “We will do everything to win it, but I above all fear the dangers of long journeys. In particular, our trip to Norway is just before an important Serie A test.”

The visit to Tromso on October 20 is just three days before the Rome derby and a midweek Serie A round brings up an intriguing away encounter with Inter on October 26.
