Wanchope eyes Roma switch

Costa Rican star Paulo Wanchope, who scored his team's two goals against Germany in the World Cup's opening match, said Sunday he wants to play for Italian Serie A club AS Roma.
The towering 30-year-old forward told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper he received a firm offer from the Rome club's then-coach Zdenek Zeman in 1999 but club president Franco Sensi recruited Brazilian Fabio Junior instead.
Clubs in England, Spain, Germany, Russia and Greece are keen to acquire the services of the 1.86-metre striker who played for English clubs Derby, West Ham and Manchester City before going on to play for Malaga in Spain and then spending a brief but unsuccessful stint in Qatar.
"All offers would be considered but Rome would be the best," Wanchope was quoted as saying. |
