Italian reports have suggested that Roma are eyeing a shock swoop for Crystal Palace striker Sandor Torghelle.

The struggling Italian giants are bracing themselves for the likes of skipper Francesco Totti and star youngster Antonio Cassano leaving the club.

Financial problems have played their part in Roma sliding away from the Serie A title race and joining the also-rans down in ninth spot - already 18 points off the pace.

Roma expect both Totti and Cassano to leave in the near future, and are looking for cut-price alternatives - leading to a shock swoop on Crystal Palace.

Reports in Italy suggest Roma believe Torghelle could be one for the future, although the 22-year-old is struggling for first team football at Selhurst Park.

Torghelle says that he has heard about the reports linking him with a Stadio Olimpico switch.

"I've heard about these reports but I can't say more about it," Torghelle told Hungarian website www.nb1.hu.

"It would be a huge honour for me if my name was really connected with the Italian giants, but one should know that I don't play in the same position as Cassano."

意大利媒体吹风说，罗马可能同时失去托蒂和卡萨诺，因此正在寻找廉价的替代者。Sandor Torghelle被认为是一名未来之星，尽管这名22岁的匈牙利前锋目前在水晶宫队还不是主力。球员本人对此表示非常荣幸，同时声称自己的场上位置不同于卡萨诺。

Roma also need a new forward after Mido agreed terms with Tottenham and they are said to be looking at Crystal Palace man Sandor Torghelle.

“I am still trying to settle in to Crystal Palace,” said the 22-year-old Hungarian, “but I know that Roma are following my career and I’m very intrigued by the idea of playing in Italy.”

Newspaper ‘Il Romanista’ claims that Torghelle would be available for £1.3m with wages of £350,000 per season.

Crystal Palace striker Sandor Torghelle has revealed he is being tracked by AS Roma.

The Hungary international has failed to settle at Selhurst Park this season, but has caught the eye of Roma scouts in World Cup qualifiers over the past six months.

"At Crystal Palace, I am still acclimatizing," said Torghelle, "but I know that in the summer I could move. I know that an Italian club is following me, Roma, and the idea of playing in Italy intrigues me a lot."

Torghelle denies Roma rumours
Crystal Palace striker Sandor Torghelle has denied claims that he is ready to quit the club.
The Hungarian starlet has failed to make the expected impact at Selhurst Park since his summer switch from MTK Hungaria.
Despite his poor start to his English career, the highly-rated 22-year-old has been linked with Italian giants Roma.
Roma were first linked in December and now their interest has been revived after Torghelle was quoted in Italy saying he would leave Palace in the summer, in order to seal a move to Serie A.
However, the young striker denies that he wants to leave England.
"I have had no approach from Italy, not a club leader nor a journalist and I didn't say a word about it to anyone," Torghelle told Nemzeti Sport.
"I suppose it's just a gossip, therefore I don't care about these speculations.
"I'm more excited about getting into the Crystal Palace line-up. I will keep working for it at every single training session.
"I've put a pen to a four-year-long contract in London, so I'd like to prove it in the next months that it was worth signing me."
